I Hid My Arms For Three Summers. Then My Granddaughter Asked About The Bruises.

I hid my arms for three summers. Cardigans at barbecues, long sleeves at the beach, a light jacket in July while everyone else was in t-shirts.
Then my granddaughter asked about the bruises.
“Nana, what happened to your arm?”
Nothing had happened. That was the thing. I hadn't fallen or banged into anything I could remember. My skin had just gotten thinner, and now the edge of the kitchen counter, the car door, the dog's leash, everything left a mark.

I tried every lotion in the drugstore
