Do not bin the mesh bag. In the bag it foams thick enough for neck and chest.Rhonda P..
Persora is a 100 g bar of persimmon soap for the stale, faintly musty smell that turns up somewhere after forty. Washing with it takes that smell off and keeps it off. It is used in the shower, on the places the smell settles, and a mesh foaming bag comes with it because a hard bar lathers better through mesh than in your hands.
It is a bar of soap, not a treatment for anything. If a smell has come on suddenly, or it is coming from one spot, that is a question for a doctor rather than a soap.
- ✓It washes the smell off, and it keeps it off. That is the whole claim and it is the only one on this page
- ✓Four ingredients, and we print all four. Glycerin, sodium hydroxide, butylene glycol, and Diospyros kaki fruit extract, which is persimmon. There is no fifth thing we are keeping back
- ✓You cannot smell it on yourself. Your own nose adapted to it years ago. That is not a failing, it is how noses work, and it is the reason this is worth owning rather than guessing about
- ✓A mesh foaming bag comes with it. A hard bar is slow to lather in bare hands and fast through mesh, which is also how the bar lasts longer
- ✓It is not made in Japan and we do not say it is. Persimmon soap is a Japanese tradition. The bar is not Japanese, and you should know that before you buy rather than after
What arrives
Your bars, each 100 g, a translucent amber rectangle with no stamp or moulding on it, in a plain card box.
A white mesh foaming bag, one per order, with a drawstring and a loop to hang it on.
Nothing else. No subscription, no refill plan and nothing that renews.
What is in it
Glycerin. The base. It is what stops a bar feeling stripping, and it is the first thing on the list rather than the last.
Sodium hydroxide. What turns oils into soap. Every bar of real soap has been made with it; none of it remains as itself in the finished bar.
Butylene glycol. A humectant, there to keep the bar from feeling tight on skin.
Diospyros kaki fruit extract. Persimmon. It is the reason the bar is amber and the reason it smells the way it does.
Where to wash
Behind the ears and the back of the neck. If you only change one thing about how you wash, change this one. It is where most people never think to go.
The chest, the underarms, the back and the shoulders. The other places the smell settles into skin and then into collars.
Once a day is enough. More washing is not the answer and never was; washing the right places is.
How long a bar lasts
About four to six weeks of daily use. Standing water is what eats a bar, so keep it on a draining dish rather than in a dish that holds a puddle, and squeeze the mesh bag out when you are done.
If you are using it on two people, which plenty of households do, buy the pair. It costs the same as one.
What it will not do
It is soap. It is not a medicine, not a treatment and not a cure for anything, and nobody here is a doctor. If a smell has come on suddenly, or it is coming from one particular spot, that is worth asking a doctor about rather than a bar of soap.
We publish no tannin figure and no lab test, because our supplier publishes none. What we publish is the ingredient list, in full.
Shipping and delivery

The thing nobody tells you
The smell changes,
and you are the last to know
Not because you have stopped washing. Because skin chemistry changes with age, and because your own nose stopped registering your own smell a long time ago.
Persora washes it off, and washing with it keeps it off.
What the smell is
A compound called
nonenal
Skin produces more of it as we get older. It has a faintly greasy, slightly musty character, quite unlike sweat, and it sits in a thin film on skin that a quick rinse runs over rather than lifts. That is why the problem is not solved by showering more often, and why it turns up in collars and on the inside of cardigans rather than in the places you would expect. None of this is a sign that anything is wrong with you. It happens to everybody who gets older, which is everybody.
- It starts somewhere after fortyGradually, so there is no day on which you notice it beginning
- Your nose stops registering itAdaptation. The one smell you can never assess is your own
- It settles where you do not washBehind the ears, the back of the neck, the upper back and the shoulders
- It moves into fabricWhich is why a clean shirt can carry it by the afternoon
What to expect
Nothing, which is
exactly the point
You will not smell of persimmon. The bar rinses away and leaves skin smelling of nothing in particular, which is what you actually want and what no perfume can do. Most people notice the difference in the first week, usually in their clothes before their skin. What you are buying is not a scent. It is not having to wonder.
- Each bar100 g, four to six weeks
- How oftenOnce a day in the shower
- What it leaves behindNothing, so your perfume still works
- If a smell came on suddenlySee a doctor. This is soap
How to use it
Bar through the mesh,
then the places you skip
A minute in the shower, once a day. The only thing people get wrong is washing everywhere except where the smell actually is.

Put the bar in the mesh bag, wet it and squeeze a few times. A hard bar is slow in bare hands and quick through mesh, and it makes a bar last noticeably longer.

These two first, every time. Then the chest, the underarms, and the back and shoulders. Give it a few seconds on skin rather than rinsing straight off.

Squeeze the bag out and stand the bar somewhere the water runs off it. Standing water is the only thing that will waste a bar on you.
Once a day is enough. Washing more often was never the answer to this. Washing the right places is.
An honest comparison
A persimmon bar, body wash,
and more deodorant
Three things people reach for. What separates them is whether they lift the film off skin or sit on top of it.

What we will not claim: no tannin percentage, no laboratory test, no traditional Japanese method and no country of manufacture, because none of those are ours to claim. What we will claim is on the first line of this page: it washes the smell off and keeps it off.
Questions
The things people ask
before they order
What is in it, where it comes from, where to wash, and what to do if you cannot smell anything yourself.
What is actually in it?
Four things, in this order: glycerin, sodium hydroxide, butylene glycol, and Diospyros kaki fruit extract, which is persimmon. That is the complete list, not a selection from it. Glycerin is the base and is what keeps a bar from feeling stripping; sodium hydroxide is what turns oils into soap in the first place and does not remain as itself in the finished bar; butylene glycol is a humectant; the persimmon extract is what makes it amber and gives it its smell.
Is it made in Japan?
No. Persimmon soap is a Japanese tradition and that is where the idea comes from, but this bar is not made in Japan and we are not going to let you believe it is. You will see persimmon soaps sold with a Japanese story attached to bars that were made elsewhere. Ours is a persimmon fruit extract soap, sold as that.
I cannot smell anything on myself. Is it worth it?
Almost nobody can, and that is the whole difficulty. A nose adapts to a constant smell in minutes, and yours has had years of practice on your own. It is the one smell you are structurally unable to assess. Most people who buy this are not responding to something they noticed; they are buying because they would rather not be guessing. If you want a second opinion before you spend anything, ask whoever does your laundry.
Where exactly should I wash?
Behind the ears and the back of the neck first, every time, because they are the two almost everybody skips and the two where it collects most. Then the chest, the underarms, and the back and shoulders. Give the lather a few seconds on skin before you rinse. Once a day is plenty; washing more often has never been the answer to this and doing it twice will only dry you out.
Will it dry my skin?
It is a glycerin-based bar rather than a stripping one, which is why glycerin is first on the list. Having said that, any bar soap used over your whole body every day can leave older skin feeling tight, so the sensible way to use it is on the places that need it and your usual wash everywhere else. If your skin is very reactive, try it on a forearm for a day or two first.
Will it fight my perfume?
No. It rinses away and leaves skin smelling of nothing much, which is the point of it. You are not swapping one smell for another; you are taking one away. If anything, perfume sits better on skin that has nothing underneath it.
Is it for men too?
Yes, and plenty of these bars end up quietly in a husband's or a father's shower. The change in skin chemistry has nothing to do with who you are, and if anything it tends to show up in collars and pillowcases sooner. It is just soap, so it does not need a conversation attached to it.
Why would I want four?
Because it is soap and you will use it, and because four bars is roughly four to six months for one person, or a couple of months if there are two of you in the house. The Buy 2 Get 2 Free tier works out at a little under fifteen dollars a bar. If you would rather try one first, buy one.

What buyers say
about Persora
do not throw the bag out
I almost binned the little white mesh bag. Do not. The bar on its own gives a thin lather. In the bag it foams thick enough to do my whole neck and chest in one go.

bought it for my dad
He is 78 and will not discuss any of this. I put a bar in his shower and said it was persimmon soap from me. He uses it. His pillowcase smells of laundry now.

my mistake the first week
I washed head to toe with it and my shins felt tight by Friday. Entirely my fault. Now it is neck, ears and chest only, usual wash for the rest, and no trouble since.

my daughter told me gently
She said it kindly and I still went quiet about it for a day. Persora was what I ordered that night, and I used it the way the page says, behind the ears and the back of the neck. Three weeks on she hugged me and said nothing at all, which was the whole point.

smaller than i pictured
The photos had me expecting a big hotel bar. It is a neat rectangle about the size of a deck of cards. Five weeks in and mine is roughly half gone, so I am not complaining.

the hamper changed first
Retired and I garden most mornings, so my shirts used to go stale in the hamper overnight. I cannot tell you how it works. I can tell you the hamper smells like laundry again.

it does not fight my perfume
That was my only real doubt, since I have worn the same scent for thirty years. It rinses off completely. By the time I am dressed there is no fruit note hanging around at all.

i still cannot smell anything on me
Honestly I could not tell before and I cannot tell now. My sister can, and she is the one who said my bedroom had changed. So I keep ordering it on her say so.

four bars was the right call
Two for me and two that went into my husband's shower without any conversation about it. At the rate we are going the four will see us into next year comfortably.

slow to lather in hard water
Our water is very hard and it takes more squeezes of the bag than I expected before the foam builds. Once it goes it is thick and fine, and it does the job. Just not instant, so be patient with it the first few mornings and do not decide it is a dud on day one.

Our promise
Try Persora
for 30 days
Stop wondering about it.
A 100 g bar of persimmon soap, four ingredients and all four printed on this page, with a mesh foaming bag so a hard bar lathers properly. Use it once a day behind the ears, on the back of the neck, the chest, the underarms and the shoulders. It washes the smell off and keeps it off, and it leaves nothing behind, so your perfume still works. It is not made in Japan and we have said so. The second bar is free, shipping is free, and you have 30 days to change your mind.
Persora is a cosmetic soap for everyday washing. It is not a medicine or a treatment, and nobody involved in selling it is a doctor. If a change in body odour has come on suddenly, is confined to one area, or comes with any other change you have noticed, please speak to a doctor rather than relying on a soap.
Ingredients: glycerin, sodium hydroxide, butylene glycol, Diospyros kaki (persimmon) fruit extract. For external use only. Keep out of the eyes. If your skin is reactive, test it on a forearm for a day or two first. Each bar is 100 g; the supplier states 12 months after opening. We publish no tannin figure and no laboratory test because our supplier publishes none, and we claim no country of manufacture: persimmon soap is a Japanese tradition, and this bar is not made in Japan.
