Tonelle Color Changing Foundation

No more standing at the shelf guessing between two shades.Jeanette K..
Tonelle is one bottle of foundation with no shade to pick. It pumps out pale, and as you press it into the skin the pigment works toward your own tone rather than sitting on top as a flat colour. The finish is dewy rather than matte.
It will not fill in lines or change your skin. It is a foundation that blends toward your own tone and sits softly rather than sinking into lines, and it washes off at the end of the day.
- ✓No shade to choose, which is the entire point. One formula, and the colour settles toward yours as you work it in, so there is no number to get wrong and no second trip to exchange it
- ✓Dewy, not matte. Powder and matte formulas are the ones that bank up in lines by lunchtime. This is a light liquid, which is the opposite problem
- ✓Buildable where you want it. One pump covers a face. A second layer goes on the few places you actually want more, rather than over everything
- ✓An airless pump, so the last of the bottle comes out the way the first did and nothing dries up in the neck
- ✓Test it on the jaw first, in daylight. One formula cannot flatter every undertone, and we would rather you checked than hoped
What arrives
The bottle: 30 ml / 1 fl oz of pale beige liquid foundation in a deep crimson airless pump bottle with a flip-top head, in a matching carton.
On the label: the name, SPF 15, and 30ML / 1FL.OZ.
The ingredient panel printed on your bottle and carton is the one to read. We do not publish a full list on this page because our supplier does not publish one, and we are not going to type out a list we cannot verify line by line.
How to use it
One or two pumps onto the back of your hand. Start with one; most faces do not need two.
Press it in with your fingers or a damp sponge rather than dragging it about. The pressure is part of how the colour settles.
Give it a moment before you judge the shade. It looks pale going on and moves toward your tone over the next half minute.
The first time, do a stripe along the jaw in daylight and watch it settle before you do a whole face.
About the SPF 15
SPF 15 is printed on the label, so we state that it is printed there. We do not present it as sun protection. The amount of foundation anyone actually wears is a fraction of what a sun protection factor is measured with, which is true of every foundation that carries one. If you want sun protection, wear sunscreen under it.
What it will not do
It will not fill in lines, lift anything, or change your skin. It is make-up. What it can do is sit lightly rather than sinking into lines the way a heavy powder does, and save you choosing a shade.
We make no claim that it is non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, cruelty-free or suitable for sensitive skin, because we have no testing to stand on. Patch test on the jaw and leave it an hour before a full face, as you would with any new foundation.

Sound familiar?
The shade you wore for years
has stopped working
Nothing about the bottle changed. Your skin did. It goes on looking fine in the bathroom and by the time you are in daylight it reads grey, or orange, or like a mask that stops at your jaw.
Tonelle is one bottle that settles toward your tone, so there is no shade to get wrong.
How it works
It goes on pale
and settles as you blend
The pale cream that comes out of the pump is not the colour you end up with, which is why the first pump alarms almost everyone. The pigment is held in tiny spheres that break down under the pressure of your fingers and release colour as you work it in. Press it in and wait half a minute before you judge it.
- It pumps out paleNear-white on the back of the hand, which looks wrong and is supposed to
- Pressure breaks it downPressing rather than dragging is what releases the colour, so a damp sponge or your fingertips both work
- It settles toward your toneOver about half a minute it moves to a shade close to your own, which is why you wait before adding more
- Build only where you want itA second layer on the few places you want more, instead of another coat over everything
What to expect
Skin that looks like skin,
with your lines still there
This is the honest ceiling. Your lines will still be your lines. What changes is that the colour of your face is even, there is no line at the jaw, and nothing has banked up in the creases by lunchtime. If you have been wearing a powder that sinks in by midday, the difference you notice will be about texture more than coverage.
- One bottleAbout two months
- CoverageLight to medium, buildable
- FinishDewy, not matte
- On lines and wrinklesNothing. It is make-up, not a treatment
How to use it
Pump, press,
wait, then judge
Under a minute. The only thing people get wrong is adding a second pump before the first has settled.

Start with one. It comes out pale and that is normal. Put it on the back of your hand rather than straight onto your face so you can pick it up in small amounts.

Fingertips or a damp sponge, pressing rather than sweeping. Work out from the middle of the face. The pressure is what releases the colour.

Let it settle before deciding whether you want more. Then build only on the few spots you want more, rather than another layer over the whole face.
First time, test on the jaw in daylight. A stripe along the jawline, left to settle, tells you more than a whole face under a bathroom bulb.
An honest comparison
One bottle, a shade range,
and a pressed powder
Three ways of covering the same thing. What separates them is whether you have to pick a number, and what happens to your lines by the afternoon.
| Tonelle | A shade range | Pressed powder | |
|---|---|---|---|
| No shade to choose and nothing to get wrong | ✓ | ✕ | ✕ |
| Dewy rather than matte | ✓ | Depends | ✕ |
| Stays out of lines through the afternoon | Mostly | Depends | ✕ |
| Still right when your skin changes next year | ✓ | ✕ | ✕ |
| Airless pump, so nothing dries out in the neck | ✓ | Some | ✓ |
| Does anything to a line or a wrinkle | ✕ | ✕ | ✕ |
What we will not claim: no study, no trial, no dermatologist, and nothing about reducing lines. It is a foundation. The last row of that table is as true for us as for everyone else.
Questions
The things people ask
before they order
Whether it really changes colour, what happens if it goes orange, and the one thing it is not going to do.
Does it really change colour?
It blends toward your tone, which is not quite the same as matching it exactly. The pigment sits in small spheres that break down under the pressure of blending and release colour as you work it in, which is why it comes out pale and looks alarming for the first few seconds. Press it in, wait half a minute, then judge. One formula cannot flatter every undertone, which is why we say to test on the jaw first.
What if it goes orange on me?
Then it is not for you, and the 30-day money back covers it. It settles warmer on some people than others, particularly if your skin has a strong yellow or olive undertone. Using a little less along the jaw and the sides of the face helps, because those are where a warm cast shows first. If it is still not right after a few goes, email us and send it back.
Will it sit in my lines?
Less than a powder will, which is the honest version of that answer. It is a light liquid with a dewy finish, and the products that bank up in lines are generally the heavy matte ones. It is not going to remove a line, and anything applied over a deep crease will eventually show it. One thin layer sits better than two thick ones.
Is it good for mature skin?
It is what we built the page around. Two things matter at this end of the market: not choosing a shade, because skin tone shifts and the number you wore at forty is usually wrong at sixty, and not sinking into lines, which is where powder and matte foundations let people down. That is what this is for. It is still make-up and it still comes off at night.
How much is a bottle and how long does it last?
Thirty millilitres, which is the standard size, and about two months at one pump a day. That is why the second bottle free and the two-and-two pack exist. The airless pump helps here: nothing dries up in the neck of the bottle and the last of it comes out the way the first did, so you use what you paid for.
What is in it?
The ingredient panel printed on your bottle and carton is the list to read. Our supplier does not publish a full panel and we are not going to invent one or copy somebody else's. What we can tell you is what is printed on the label: the name, SPF 15, and 30 ml. If a full ingredient list before purchase is important to you, and that is a fair thing to want, this may not be the right buy.
Can I wear it with sunscreen or moisturiser?
Yes, and sunscreen is the sensible order: moisturiser, sunscreen, then this on top once they have settled. The SPF 15 printed on the label is not a substitute for sunscreen, for the same reason it is not on any foundation: nobody wears enough foundation to get the protection the number refers to. Give the layers underneath a minute before you press this in.
Should anyone avoid it?
Patch test on the jaw and leave it an hour before you do a full face, which is sensible with any new foundation. Keep it out of your eyes. We make no claim that it is non-comedogenic, fragrance-free or suitable for sensitive skin, because we have no testing behind us. If your skin reacts to new products easily, test a small area for a few days before committing.

What buyers say
about Tonelle
the first pump frightened me
What comes out is paler than anything I would ever buy and for ten seconds I thought I had wasted my order. Half a minute of pressing it in and it landed near my neck tone.
no more standing at the shelf
I am sixty-three and I have not been able to pick my own shade in years. Ordering Tonelle took one click because there is only one of it. That alone was worth trying.
a touch warm on me, honestly
Fair warning: on my jaw it reads slightly warmer than my neck, so I blend it down past the jawline and no one has ever noticed. For everything else it suits me better than my old one.
the pump is the quiet win
My last foundation went darker in the neck of the bottle by month two. This one doses a pump and shuts, and the last of the bottle looks like the first.
took me three tries to blend it right
I kept sweeping it like my old liquid and it stayed pale in patches. Pressing it in with a damp sponge was the fix. Nobody told me at the counter because there is no counter.
my daughter asked what i changed
She thought I had been to a facial. I had just stopped wearing a shade that was half a tone off. That is the whole story, and I told her so.
it did not erase my lines
It did not erase my lines and I did not expect it to. What it does is sit on top of them rather than sinking in and drawing a map of my face by lunchtime, which is what my old powder did. That is a smaller promise than most of them make, and it is the one I actually wanted.
one went to my sister
Two bottles arrived and I gave one to my sister, who has olive skin where I am pink. It settled differently on each of us, closer to each neck. Neither of us picked a number.
one pump covers my whole face
I was using twice as much out of habit for the first week and it looked like a layer. One pump, pressed in, and a tiny bit more on the chin is all it needs.
bought four because i reorder badly
I am hopeless at reordering and I always run out mid week, so four bottles made sense to me. It works out a good deal cheaper that way and I have one in the bathroom, one in my bag and two in the cupboard. Pumps do not dry out in the neck the way the old bottles did either.
Our promise
Try Tonelle
for 30 days
One bottle. No shade to get wrong.
It pumps out pale, settles toward your own tone as you press it in, and sits lightly instead of sinking into lines by lunchtime. It will not fill in a line and it is not a treatment, which is the part most of them leave out. The second bottle is free, shipping is free, and you have 30 days to change your mind.
Tonelle is a cosmetic foundation. It is not a treatment and it does not change skin. It will not reduce lines or wrinkles. SPF 15 is printed on the label and is stated here for that reason only; it is not a substitute for sunscreen, because the amount of foundation anyone wears is far less than a sun protection factor is measured with. Results vary from person to person.
For external use on the face only. Patch test on the jaw and leave it an hour before a full application. Keep it out of your eyes and rinse with water if it gets in them. Stop if the skin stings, itches or reddens. We make no claim that this product is non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, cruelty-free or suitable for sensitive skin.
