Fair question. Inside the flat bar is a hardened steel roller chain running over a sprocket at each end, in an all-metal case. It is rated to 53 ft-lb: enough for a lot of the bracket, sensor and cover bolts that end up buried, and not meant for lug nuts or a seized suspension bolt. It does one job. If it does not earn its spot in your toolbox, you have 30 days to get your money back.

Can I put an impact on it?
Yes, as long as you stay under the 53 ft-lb rating. Most impacts can go well past that, so use the lowest setting and short bursts. For a stubborn bolt, a hand ratchet is kinder to the chain.

A hardened steel roller chain inside the bar carries every turn to the socket, 1:1. Loosen or tighten, the same way.

What to expect
the first time you use it
- 1Click it together at the bench
Adapter into the far end, socket onto the adapter, ratchet into the near end. Tug each joint once before it goes anywhere near the engine.
- 2Thin end in first
Engine off and cool. Feed the socket end in and seat it fully on the bolt head, then bring the ratchet end out to where you have room. Keep the bar flat and square to the bolt.
- 3Take up the slack, then pull
Turn gently until the chain takes up and you feel the socket bite, then pull smoothly. If a bolt will not move with a firm pull on a 3/8 ratchet, stop. That is past 53 ft-lb. Penetrating oil, then a breaker bar from another angle.

before buying
Will it fit my ratchet and sockets?
Both ends are 3/8 inch square drive. A 3/8 ratchet, impact or air ratchet plugs straight into one end. Your socket goes on the other end with one of the four adapters in the box, which cover 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive sockets, standard or deep.
I only have a 1/2 inch ratchet. Will that work?
Not straight in. It needs a 1/2 to 3/8 inch reducer on the ratchet, which comes in a lot of socket sets and is a common part at any hardware store. Honestly, a 3/8 ratchet is the right size for it anyway: at 53 ft-lb, a long 1/2 inch handle makes it too easy to go past the rating.
Will it fit my tight spot?
Two things decide it. The gap in front of the bolt has to fit 0.63 inch of bar plus the adapter and socket, and there has to be a straight path along the bar from the bolt out to where your hand fits, because the bar does not bend. If there is, it reaches. If it does not reach your bolt, send it back inside 30 days.
How much torque will it take?
53 ft-lb (72 Nm) is the max rating. That covers a lot of the bolts that end up buried: brackets, sensors, covers and heat shields. It is not for lug nuts, axle nuts, big suspension bolts or anything seized. If a bolt does not move with a firm pull on a 3/8 ratchet, stop and come at it another way.
Can I use an impact or an air ratchet?
Yes, as long as you stay under 53 ft-lb. Most impacts can go well past that, so use the lowest setting and short bursts. A hand ratchet is kinder to the chain on a stubborn bolt.
Does it tighten as well as loosen?
Yes. It turns 360 degrees in both directions, 1:1, so a turn of the ratchet is a turn of the socket, whichever way you go.
Will the socket fall off inside the engine?
The adapter clicks into the end of the bar and the socket clicks onto the adapter, the same way it does on your ratchet. Click it together at the bench and tug each joint once before you reach in.

Can I use a drill with it?
With a hex-shank to 3/8 inch square drive bit in the chuck, yes, on a low speed and a low clutch setting. The same 53 ft-lb limit applies.
